Our new “SWAT Team”

By Phil Traynor, Sr. Systems Engineer, HP at Tech Data
The end of the last quarter gave us a fast and furious set of challenges to get a massive HP 3Par StoreServ order booked and shipped. A key reseller and their end user submitted for a large infrastructure upgrade consisting of 21 separate 3Par StoreServ 7450 series all-Flash arrays and some options; totaling more than $9 million spread over 13 orders. We submitted for HP’s exception process to get product built in a hurry at the end of a quarter and got them approved.
While the units were being built, administrative details and some sudden changes required last-minute scrambling to get the Watson builds reset, the sales orders placed, and the POs cut to HP by the end of Friday to enable the orders to ship over the weekend and meet the end user’s delivery timetable.
Our ePlus Sales team – represented by Amy Cole and Erika Brubaker – never left their desks on Friday, working all day and through the evening to coordinate efforts to get all of the orders submitted. Casey Burns left the Rays game to come into the office to place the POs to HP and I left the orchestra pit of a school theater production to come to the office to ensure the Watson configs were properly processed. In the end, the newly-christened “SWAT Team” of Amy, Erika, Casey and I left Tech Data just before midnight on Friday night; but the orders all shipped – enabling the customer’s rollout to occur on time and to their satisfaction!
